Performance Recommendations

Soloists

Soprano and Mezzo-soprano vocalists: Both roles are more pop than classical, but require trained voices with wide range and control.

Tenor vocalist: This role is quite demanding. It requires a classically-trained tenor who is extremely versatile in other musical genres; he must be able to branch into gospel, jazz/scat, and R&B styles with fluidity.

Chorus

Gospel choir: Eighty voices or more recommended, depending on the size of the hall.

Orchestra

It is highly recommended that the rhythm section be jazz players who can read chord charts. There is a small amount of improvisation in the lead saxophone part.
